Who Is Paul Nicklen?

Paul Nicklen is a Canadian photographer, filmmaker and marine biologist whose career has focused heavily on the world’s oceans and polar environments.  

In 2014, Nicklen co founded SeaLegacy, a nonprofit organization that uses visual storytelling to support ocean conservation. His photography has earned numerous international honours throughout his career, including recognition from World Press Photo and BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year.  

But behind the awards is something much simpler: an ability to make people care about animals, landscapes and ecosystems they may never experience themselves.

In September 2026, Mountain Galleries at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler welcomed Paul Nicklen for a special event celebrating the release of his newest book, Reverence.  

Nearly 200 guests attended, with Paul meeting collectors and signing copies of the new publication. Several significant photographs also found new homes over the course of the event.  

Reverence brings together 160 photographs across 360 pages, exploring the wildlife, landscapes and ecosystems that have shaped Nicklen’s extraordinary career.  

It was a very good weekend for photography.
