Nearly 200 guests joined us at Mountain Galleries at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler for a very special afternoon with Canadian photographer, filmmaker and conservationist Paul Nicklen.  

The September 13 event celebrated the release of Paul's newest book, Reverence, bringing together collectors, photography enthusiasts and members of the Whistler community for an afternoon of conversation, signed books and fine art photography.

And Whistler certainly showed up.

Books left in impressive numbers, several significant Paul Nicklen photographs found new homes, and the gallery was filled throughout the afternoon.

What Is Paul Nicklen's New Book Reverence?

Reverence is Paul Nicklen's latest photography book and one of his most personal publications to date.

Across 360 pages and 160 photographs, the book explores the wild environments that have shaped Nicklen's life and career, moving from oceans and polar landscapes to some of the world's most extraordinary wildlife.  

It brings together the two things that have defined much of his career: remarkable photography and a deep commitment to the natural world.  

For guests in Whistler, the signing offered the opportunity to meet Paul personally, hear more about his work and experience his photography beyond the pages of the book.

A Conversation About Photography and Conservation

We were also joined by conservation creator Macaila Wagner, who sat down with Paul during the event for a special conversation.  

They discussed photography, conservation, storytelling and the experiences behind Paul's images.

Why Is Paul Nicklen's Photography So Recognizable?

Nicklen's career has taken him into some of the planet's most remote environments, often working in extreme conditions to photograph wildlife and ecosystems rarely experienced firsthand.  

His fine art photographs bring those encounters into a completely different setting.  

Printed at substantial scale, the images allow details that might disappear on a screen to become part of the experience. A polar landscape, an underwater encounter or a moment between animals becomes something you can stand in front of and explore.
