This remarkable new sculpture by Andrew Gable has been a two-year-long endeavor, carved from a single block of Italian marble. Legacy stands as both a technical and emotional achievement- a piece born from determination, risk, and the artist’s unwavering belief in his vision.

Read about the journey behind Legacy and discover how Gable’s inspiration and persistence transformed one massive slab of marble into a timeless work of art.

No Risk No Reward.

I laugh every time I say this because it feels so cliché

But for me, in my life, and with my art, there is some substance to this statement.

I borrowed money to buy this block of marble.

In fact, I bought 3 large stones.

I had this grand idea of doing larger carvings but at the time I didn’t have the upfront investment.

I needed that investment to buy the stone and then to pay myself while I spent the time creating these works.

I bet on myself.

I bet that I could borrow the money and make art sales to pay back the money and enable me to create 3 large monumental works of art.

It was a risk because I didn’t know if I could really do that.

But why not…you never know if you don’t try.

I finished 2 of the carvings and the third block, which is the block I carved the monumental marble polar (Legacy) out of, just sat there.

That all started over 6 years ago.

Other projects came up, commissions, life, you know how it goes.

My wife and I decided to move, and I almost sold the block of marble that sat there in front of my carving studio starting at me.

In the end, I loaded it into a uhaul (don’t tell uhaul) and brought it with me.

I dropped it on my parents' property in the trees, not really knowing when, if ever, I would carve it.

2 years ago (after a year of it sitting there) I walked over to it with a measuring tape and thought maybe I could cut it up into smaller pieces.

I started taking measurements and a thought crossed my mind…’What I carve my ‘original vision’

It was a risk.

I didn’t know how long it would take.

I didn’t know if I had enough inventory to sustain me during the time it takes to create one monumental piece.

But I wanted to carve it.

I wanted to create something special.

I wanted to create a statement piece.

I wanted to challenge myself as an artist and a person.

I wanted to create a work of art with substance, with meaning, that was meant to ADD something to this world.

That was meant to stand the test of time.

I went for it.

That’s what I mean by ‘No Risk No Reward’

The whole process took about 7 months of carving over the span of 2 summers.

I am so glad I went for it.

I am happy to now share this creation with the world.
