As a Canadian painter, Tim Schumm is constantly inspired by the power and diversity of our landscape. He is exploratory by nature and has experienced a wide cross-section of Canada. A large portion of Schumm’s work has been created “en plein air”. When that is not possible, due to the weather or the size of his canvasses, he paints in his in-home studio.

Tim Schumm’s objective as a painter is to render a pictorial image and to convey an emotional context that is accessible to the viewer. This is achieved by several methods. He uses expressive and impastoed brush strokes, rendering a sense of movement and texture, giving the painting a life of its own. His interpretation of color also sets the dynamic mood and feelings in his paintings. Finally the tones of his paintings are often ranging from the darkest to the lightest, in an effort to achieve maximum drama. This combination of information is created in a spontaneous and intuitive fashion. Schumm is constantly in search of more of the elements of nature that have inspired past paintings, thus, continuing the cycle of inspiration and creation.
