Judy Michael is a goldsmith, born in 1947 in Hanna Alberta; she began her career as a goldsmith in the early seventies at Murdoch’s Gem shop in Whitehorse Yukon.
Judy took classes at George Brown College in Toronto to expand on her already growing knowledge of her craft. The 14 years she spent in the north continues to have a powerful influence over her creative process.
Judy then opened and successfully ran a retail jewellery store in Drayton Valley Alberta for 23 years. In her retirement she discovered her passion for carving in wax. Judy has a genuine appreciation for northern Canada and carving Inuksuks is her way of staying in touch with the north. The inuksuk and the north have always held a special place in her heart and it shows in her work, which is predominantly northern design.
The pieces created were originally carved in wax before being cast in gold or silver. All of the pieces have been hand finished and polished, making each piece unique.
Creating these Inuksuks gives Judy the opportunity to share her passion for the north.
