Born in British Columbia, Maureen now resides in Cochrane, Alberta. She completed her B.Ed., at the University of British Columbia in 1969 and her M.Ed., in Art at the University of Calgary in 1971. She was an instructor Alberta College of Art, in Calgary until 2001; a post she left after 25 years of teaching, to pursue her art/conservation work full time.
For her groundbreaking experimental research concerning human coexistence with grizzly bears in Russia’s Far East, Maureen is an internationally celebrated artist. Since 1986 she has focused her art on the conservation of wild/ misunderstood animals which has earned her numerous national and international awards. Her work has also been the subject of many books, films, radio/television profiles and newspaper & magazine articles.
Her current focus is the wild horses of Alberta and their dwindling wilderness habitat north of Calgary; the subject of her second feature TV documentary. – “Wild Horses of the Canadian Rockies” produced by Pyramid Productions Inc. to be released on Animal Planet in the fall of 2008.
Maureen's work has been featured in countless exhibitions around the world where it can be found in museums, private & corporate collections.
